You’ve been told you have BPD or suspect you might—and don’t know where to turn for the right support.

Social interactions or relationships feel confusing, draining, or emotionally unpredictable.

You’ve experienced trauma, abuse, or a distressing past that still affects your day-to-day functioning.

Hello, I’m Tim

I believe therapy should be practical, compassionate, and genuinely effective — especially for people who feel stuck or like nothing has worked before. Whether you’re facing intense emotions, trauma, or just feeling lost, I’m here to offer real tools and a safe, supportive space.

I’m a registered psychologist with an Honours degree in Psychology and experience across DBT, Schema Therapy, CBT, and trauma-informed approaches. Over the past four years, I’ve supported clients with BPD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and more — both one-on-one and through structured DBT group programs.

Before becoming a psychologist, I worked in the forensic field and played elite-level basketball, which shaped my understanding of emotional regulation under pressure. That lived experience now helps me support clients in managing stress and building resilience.

Therapy with me is collaborative, client-led, and grounded in what works. Whatever you're going through, change is possible — and you don’t have to do it alone.

Our approach to meaningful, practical therapy

At Guided Psychology, therapy isn’t just about talking — it’s about learning, growing, and building real-world skills to help you manage life more effectively.

Led by registered psychologist Tim Harmer, our approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and client-led. We support people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or like therapy hasn’t worked for them in the past.

Whether you're navigating intense emotions, relationship challenges, depression, anxiety, trauma, or neurodivergence, we meet you where you're at — without judgement, and with genuine care.

We draw from a range of proven therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Schema Therapy
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Solutions Focused Therapy (SFT)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Our work is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and deeply practical. This means you’ll get support that’s tailored to your needs — with clear goals, helpful strategies, and space to reflect and grow at your own pace.

Whether you’re working through past trauma, learning to manage emotions, or trying to find purpose again, our goal is to help you move forward with greater self-awareness, confidence, and clarity.

Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about equipping you with the insight, tools, and support to take back control and create a life that feels more like yours.

The Guided Psychology DBT Program

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is one of the most effective approaches for managing intense emotions, building emotional resilience, and creating meaningful change — especially for people with BPD, trauma, or emotional dysregulation.

At Guided Psychology, our DBT program combines individual therapy with structured group sessions to help you:

  • Understand and regulate overwhelming emotions
  • Build stronger, more stable relationships
  • Improve mindfulness and distress tolerance
  • Develop real-world coping strategies that actually work

What to expect:

  • 12-week DBT group program, offered after-hours on weekday evenings or Saturday mornings
  • One-on-one sessions alongside group work for personalised support
  • Flexible format if group therapy isn’t the right fit for you
  • Medicare rebates available for up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions per calendar year

Whether you're new to DBT or revisiting it in a new setting, we’ll guide you through it at your pace — with support that’s structured, practical, and centred on your goals.

FAQs

We know starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the things people often ask. If there’s something else on your mind, feel free to get in touch.

What types of issues do you help with?

We work with people facing a wide range of challenges including BPD, ASD, trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and life overwhelm. Many of our clients come to us feeling stuck or burnt out, unsure of how to move forward. We offer practical strategies and compassionate support to help you make meaningful progress.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work?

That’s something we hear often, and it’s completely valid. Some clients come to us after feeling disappointed or let down by previous therapy experiences. We use proven approaches like DBT and Schema Therapy, and we always take the time to tailor the process to you. You’re in the driver’s seat and we go at your pace.

Do you offer telehealth services?

Yes, absolutely. We offer flexible telehealth appointments via phone or video for clients across Australia. This is a great option if you’re located outside Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, have a busy schedule, or simply prefer the comfort of your own space. You’ll receive the same level of care and support as you would in person.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

No referral is needed to get started. You’re welcome to reach out directly to book a free 15-minute call to discuss your needs. However, if you’re planning to use a Mental Health Care Plan, WorkCover, TAC, or NDIS, you will need the relevant referral paperwork. Either way, we’re happy to guide you through the steps.

Can I do individual therapy without joining a DBT group?

Yes. While DBT is most effective when group and individual sessions work together, we understand that it’s not always the right time or fit for everyone. We’re flexible and can adapt the approach based on your goals, preferences, and what feels manageable for you.

How long do sessions go for?

Standard individual sessions last for 50 minutes, while DBT group therapy sessions run for 2 hours.
